Hey Girl Hey (Atlantic City, NJ)Catch the last weekend of the New York Asian Film Festival. This year's programming has the usual mix of high and low cinema coming out of Asia but the emphasis has been placed on a great selection of Asian gore/zombie/horror films. The NYC premiere of Love Exposure plays tonite at the Japan Society!
6:15PM Showing with the director, Sion Sono in attendance!‘OFF THE RECORD’ with special guest TKAT
On any other Friday night, you might find David Azzoni (aka TKAT) rocking the decks at Brooklyn’s Black Betty with Monk One, holding down the rhythm section and backup vocals with afro-latin-beat group Chico Mann, or maybe just cruising around Brooklyn on his fixie spreading love.
This Friday, however, you can catch BK’s TKAT as he drops his favorite vinyl selections at OFF THE RECORD. Expect a hot batch of soul, funk, latin, disco, and house hits to keep you dancing all night long.
ABOUT SNACK and CMISH
DJs Snack and Cmish have huge plans and a big goal: They want to make New York City dance on a Friday Night. With their combined passion for spinning choice Boogie, Disco, and House, the upstairs of APT will be transformed into a weekly dance spot dubbed ‘Off The Record’.
Each week, SandC will feature local and emerging DJs from around the country, delivering a taste of a new underground dance scene that is growing, not only within New York, but within major cities throughout the States. By bringing Disco, Funk, and Boogie heat from the 70s and 80s, S&C hope to revive a scene that embraces a pretense-free dance experience in New York City.

Brought to you by The FADER, Red Bull, Lookout, and ReluxeLynnette Astaire presents AMERICAN GOTHIC
9:00- 19:00 / Mayfair / Intersection of New Bond and Clifford, directly across from Louis Vuitton. LONDON
Saturday July 4th 2009, come celebrate American Independence in London as Lynnette Astaire releases her new historical documentary "John Monroe" as part of her latest Public Arts Project "American Gothic."
American Gothic Is a Public Works of Art Project based off my photograph "John Monroe," a visual statement intended to symbolize the alleged affair between John F. Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe. The scene “John” shows the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The original Zapruder footage has been dubbed over with coughs, cell phone rings, and other quirks that indicate that the film has been pirated or "bootlegged." The scene “Monroe” features the footage of Marilyn Monroe’s "Happy Birthday Mr. President" presented in the same manner. “John Monroe” will be produced in DVD form, as a limited edition of 99. The cheap production value is intended to mimic the pirated look of movie theater re-recorded video footage commonly used in bootlegged production methods. These types of movies are commonly sold on the sidewalks and subways of urban areas.
The film sells for £99.99, with an extremely limited production run of 99TEXAS HEAT Music Festival

Born to singer Aminata Diakité, Oumou Sangare is a Malian musician known as "The Songbird of Wassoulou.” She writes and composes her songs to bring about social awareness, especially concerning the place of women within society. Since 1990, she has performed at some of the most prestigious venues in the world: the Melbourne Opera, Roskilde festival, Festival d'Essaouira and Opéra de la Monnaie of Brussels. Her 1989 album Moussoulou was an unprecedented West African hit and she has toured with artists such as Baaba Maal, Femi Kuti, and Boukman Eksperyans. The exhibition takes its inspiration from political activity surrounding cultural production within the moment of AIDS activism, although the works represented are not strictly tied to AIDS.

Bushwick Open Studios is a self-organized art festival where anyone and everyone in the community is welcome to participate by presenting art work, organizing activities or helping to produce the event. The purpose is to create an open and inclusive event that benefits the entire community through the sharing of artistic projects and the encouragement of community interaction and dialogue.
BOS is an art festival centered around the open studios of local artists. Also included are myriad other platforms for exhibiting and celebrating the creative energy of Bushwick. CARGO
83 Rivington Street
Shoreditch, London
AplusR is the newest adventure by the people who brought you the groundbreaking parties NYC/LDN and MAP, i.e the same people who brought to the UK the likes of BLK JKS and Theophilus London for the very first time.
It is with this same spirit of discovery, the most recently signed Maluca of Mad Decent Records comes over from NYC for the hottest party at Cargo. Maluca draws inspiration form her Nuyorican roots but makes uncompromising dance music aimed squarely at the dance floor. Following in the footsteps of Buraka Som Sistema or M.I.A., Maluca embraces the rhythms and a melody ingrained in her cultural heritage and adds an unhealthy dose of BASS to create an intoxicating musical cocktail that is both heavy and refreshing at the same time. Already singled out by the Midas-like Diplo, who will be producing her first 12" on Mad Decent, Maluca only has one way to go: UP; and if you happen to cross her path here is only one thing to do: SHAKE IT!
DJ Martelo will be turning up more Heat at Cargo, having just toured with Toddla-T & Oneman, He also has worked/Produced/Remixed for the likes of Santogold, Riva Starr, Mumdance or Hervé and that’s just naming a few. Martelo has a proven record as a Bassline specialist of the highest order, and his sets flow seamlessly from dancehall to b-more to fidget via Hip Hop and Dubstep and anything else in between. Dope ish!!
Isa GT is a Colombian born member of Girlcore, the all-girl DJ collective that has been destroying London's East End with their riotous mashup parties. A budding producer, Isa GT has been championing the Funketa sound, a fierce mix of the Colombian dance Champeta and Brazil's percussion heavy Baile Funk. Her first release - Pela'o - has been remixed by Crookers, and she is now working on a track with the Zombie Disco Squad so she clearly knows what she's doing!
Last but not least, the in-demand Work It! DJs will be warming hips and toes from the DJ booth with their Boom-Bap-a-licious 90's hip hop selections that have earned them coveted invitations to play at Q-Tip's after-party and to host their own Bloc Party at the ICA and not to mention the Shoreditch is Shit Vs PLAIN JANES night at 333. Boom Bap yo!

Now in its 32nd year, DanceAfrica, guided by the inspired, creative vision of Artistic Director Chuck Davis, unites dance companies from across the nation to shake the Opera House stage. This year Washington DC-based percussion orchestra Farafina Kan—the "sound of Africa"—shares the history and spirit of West African music; New York group SeeWe African Dance Company uses African rhythms and instruments to enlighten audiences; Brooklyn-based Evidence, A Dance Company fuses traditional African dance with contemporary movements and spoken word; and the BAM/Restoration DanceAfrica Ensemble from Bed-Stuy performs for the thirteenth straight year at BAM. A Memorial Day weekend tradition, DanceAfrica is packed with dance, music, art, and film events—plus the one-and-only DanceAfrica outdoor bazaar.

TRUE, Twelve Years of Photography by Mike Schreiber exemplifies the image of some of the world’s top Hip Hop icons, placing forth a sense of reality that is often obscured through other forms of media. Additionally, Schreiber juxtaposes Hip Hop imagery with multi-cultural authenticity that he has captured during his travels. Earning a degree in Anthropology from the University of Connecticut, Schreiber is a self-taught photographer, who possesses an eye for unique and intriguing social situations. Having trekked the world, documenting his journeys, his socially conscious style adds an aesthetic, which is both gripping and provocative. His photography has been featured in publications such as Esquire, XXL, Vibe and many others.
Through his work with various Hip Hop artists, TRUE provides a means for individuals to emotionally connect with their heroes of Hip Hop culture. Schreiber’s ability to expose the rappers true identity sheds the pretense of expectation and replaces it with a raw interpretation of direct feelings. TRUE is the realism and expression that surrounds our daily lives.
